Daft Punk documentary to air next year

A documentary about the elusive French dance act Daft Punk is set to be released next year.

The men behind the robot masks – Thomas Bangalter and Gay-Manuel de Homem-Christo – are to be the subject of a film by BBC Worldwide Production France.

The hour-long documentary will trace the ‘Get Lucky’ pair’s 20 year music career.

Daft Punk began sporting their trademark robot helmets for their public appearances around 2001. They rarely grant press coverage and have taken to making select live performances.

Despite allowing a French television crew to follow them for an arts program in the late 1990’s, Daft Punk refused to speak on camera "because it is dangerous." Other televised interviews have seen the pair speak with their backs turned to the camera and wearing black bags over their heads.

The upcoming documentary’s co-producer, Jean-Louis Blot, stated: "We are proud to announce our first commission with Canal Plus Group on such an original and creative film. BBC Worldwide France stands as a major French producer of documentaries with stunning production values and universal appeal."
