Gerard Way on My Chemical Romance split: 'I was the most depressed I've ever been in my life'

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has revealed that the band's split was one of the hardest things he's ever had to do, but he knew it was the best thing to do at the time.

Speaking to Q magazine, the rocker admitted that he was really down after the band called it a day, but he had to get honest with himself about what he wanted and he will now play a couple of solo sets at this year's Reading and Leeds Festival:

"Doing the right thing is usually the hardest thing. I was the most depressed I've been in my whole life... Towards the end (of the band's career), I wasn't being true to myself. It was when I decided to be honest with myself that I started to get better."

"At a certain point after the band had broken up, I realised this was the therapy that helped get me through it."

Way will perform on the NME/Radio 1 stage in Reading on August 22 and Leeds on August 23.
