Katy Perry, One Direction and Jessie J sales awards upgraded by streaming

The likes of Katy Perry and One Direction have had record sales certifications upgraded after streaming was included in the sales count.

Streaming figures were recently introduced to the UK singles chart and now the BPI have confirmed that they are to be included in record sales awards.

They have backdated streams to the start of 2014 and added to sales tallies, with a host of big name stars benefitting as a result.

Jessie J's 'Price Tag' has now been upgraded to double platinum (over 1.2m sales), whilst Clean Bandit's 'Rather Be' has also been awarded the same.

Katy Perry's 'Dark Horse' has been bumped up to platinum (600k sales), whilst One Direction's 'Best Song Ever' is now gold (400k).

Some older songs have also been upgraded, with Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' and Catatonia's 'Road Rage' going silver (200k).

100 streams are equal to one sale and more than 80 singles have had their sales certifications changed as a result.
