Katy Perry hopes to star in musical version of 'Clueless'

A musical reimagining of cult ‘90s movie ‘Clueless’ is being adapted for the stage and a certain A-list American pop star wants to be part of the production.

Writer and director of the original film Amy Heckerling is currently working on the musical and told Rolling Stone that Katy Perry has already approached her about her ‘Clueless’ adaptaion.

Heckerling stated: “Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death.”

‘Clueless’ was released in 1995 and follows the exploits of the rich, teenage Beverly Hills girl Cher Horowitz and her friends. The American comedy stars Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash and the late Brittany Murphy.

‘Clueless’ served as the inspiration for Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX’s video ‘Fancy’ where they recreate many of the film’s most recognisable scenes and outfits.

Speaking about Azalea’s ‘Clueless’ re-make, Amy Heckerling said: “It looked like they had more money for the video than I had for the movie. But I was extremely flattered and I thought she was amazing. And whoever did the costumes, I don’t know how they did that.”

The musical of ‘Clueless’ has been described by the director as being in “really, really early” stages but confirmed that lyrics have already been completed.
