Cory Monteith's mother speaks out: 'The loss is horrendous'

Ann McGregor, the mother of the late 'Glee' star Cory Monteith has opened up about his tragic and untimely death and admitted that he was a troubled teen who 'had a lot of emotional things he was trying to figure out'.

Singer and actor Monteith was found dead in a Canadian hotel room on July 13, 2013 and autopsy results later showed that he passed away from a lethal cocktail of alcohol and heroin

Speaking to 'Good Morning America' this week about the tremendous loss, his mother explained that she's only just starting to come to terms with his death one year on: "The loss is horrendous. Until three days ago I couldn't look at a picture of Cory… So there's been progress."

"[When] Cory was 15, he did a code blue, and I think that was the turning point. He had a lot of emotional things he was trying to figure out -- lot of it was he really wanted a relationship with his father. I think when a child gets invalidated they keep reaching even harder. They want to find out why.

McGregor went onto add that as a parent, there are certain aspects of a child's life you simply can't control: "I don't think we have power to change the choices they're making. I think with the kind of connection Cory and I had, if we couldn't prevent that situation, I don’t have the answer."
