Charli XCX on success: 'I really proved everyone wrong'

'Fancy' singer and songwriter Charli XCX has revealed that she's very proud to have made it out from underdog status thanks to the success of her collaborative single with Iggy Azalea because people never expected her to go far.

Speaking to London's Metro newspaper, the rising star explained that it's great to be able to prove people wrong: "People give Iggy a hard time because she's Australian and white and female and apparently that's weird thing, which I don't get."

"People also view me as an underdog, so I think it's cool that we came together and had this girl power moment and were No.1 in the States for seven weeks. We really proved everyone wrong, which I think is really cool."

Charli XCX, meanwhile, recently told the NME that she's looking forward to writing hit singles for herself now that she has established herself as a writer and songstress: "I can write a fucking hit song. And I'm going to write some for me now. I feel like as an artist I've done so many collaborations now that I think I just want to take this record for myself."
