Sinead O'Connor: 'The industry sexualised Justin Bieber when he was just 15-years-old'

'Nothing Compares 2 U' songstress Sinead O'Connor has revealed that she's disgusted by the way the music industry sexualises youngsters who are just launching their careers.

During a new interview with Britain's The Guardian newspaper, she explained that the music industry is still too focused on sexualising pop stars in order to sell maximum records and used Canadian superstar Justin Bieber, who is now 20, as an example:

"You can't take the sex out of rock'n'roll - that's really important. What bothers me is that the artists that are most sexualised look like children and their audiences are children."

“I don't think it's appropriate to start sexualising an artist like Justin Bieber at 15-16 years of age - he's too young to know the decision he's making. [...] Justin Bieber, he's being sold on his sexuality, but he's too young to even understand what's going on.”

Last autumn, meanwhile, O'Connor wrote a controversial open letter to Miley Cyrus in which she warned the young beauty about the perils of the music industry and suggested that executives would 'prostitute' her: "The music business doesn't give a s**t about you, or any of us."

"They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think it's what YOU wanted and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted, 'they' will be sunning themselves on their yachts in Antigua, which they bought by selling your body and you will find yourself very alone."
