Austin Mahone on meeting One Direction: 'It was pretty cool and Niall loved my shoes'

American singer Austin Mahone has revealed that he was really excited to meet One Direction last year at the MTV VMAs and had a nice interaction with one of the guys about his sneakers.

Speaking to Hollywood Life, the heartthrob admitted that he had a great encounter with the band's Irish member, Niall Horan, who praised his choice of footwear:

'Last VMAs I performed on the pre-show. I was back and getting ready for my performance and One Direction walks in. I see Niall and he saw my shoes and he was like, 'Oh man, those are the sickest shoes I have ever seen!' And he was obsessed with my shoes and couldn't stop looking at them, so I thought that was pretty cool."

Earlier this month, Mahone fronted a campaign to discourage fans from texting and driving, and spoke out about the dangers:

"I wanted to inform kids on why it’s important to drive safe because I’m a new teen driver as well, and these days it’s all about Twitter and Instagram, so I just wanted to let them know that it’s not worth it to check all that stuff while you’re driving. Wait until you get to where you are to check all that because it’s actually the No.1 cause of death for teens in America. It’s pretty scary.”
