Miley Cyrus's homeless VMAs guest turns himself in to police

The homeless man brought to the MTV VMAs by Miley Cyrus has turned himself into the police after it was revealed there was an arrest warrant for him.

The singer brought homeless runaway 22-year-old Jesse Helt to the event on Sunday (August 24) and his identity was revealed when he went on stage to collect Cyrus's Video of the Year prize.

He spoke on behalf of homeless youths and the singer then invited people to donate to a homeless shelter in Hollywood.

It had been reported that Helt was wanted by police in Salem, Oregon for violating probation in relation to charges of criminal trespassing and criminal mischief which were brought against him in 2010.

It has now been confirmed that Helt has turned himself in and has been released on bail. Helt is expected to stand before a judge in roughly two weeks.

The 22-year-old was discovered through the Hollywood homeless centre My Friend's Place and Cyrus was assisted by in finding the charity by Trevor Neilson, the president of G2 Investment Group and co-founder of the Global Philanthropy Group.

He added in a statement: "Jesse Helt turned himself in tonight to Polk County authorities to address his outstanding legal issues. Miley Cyrus will be assisting him with this process, and they both are committed to working to help the other 1.6 million youth who experience homelessness in America each year."
