Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé and Ariana Grande enjoy sales boost after MTV VMAs

Despite viewing figures being down on this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, a number of the show’s star performers have seen their US music sales increase.

Less than a week after the ceremony took place on August 24, there are already early indications of the impact the VMAs coverage has had on certain artists’ sales stats.

Nicki Minaj’s latest release ‘Anaconda’ has achieved the biggest gains. 'Anaconda' has risen by 132% from 68,000 to 120,000 units for the week. Minaj performed the track as part of an opening combination set with Jessie J and Ariana Grande.

Usher’s ‘She Came To Give It To You’ – featuring Nicki Minaj – is up 43% to 7000 and Beyoncé ’s ‘Drunk In Love’ rose by 55% to 9000.

Whilst individual song sales have taken the lion’s share of sales activity a couple of albums have also prospered from the televised event.

Following her medley performance to accept the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Beyoncé’s self-titled album saw its sales increase by 63%. Show starter Ariana Grande also received a boost with her new LP ‘My Everything’ receiving a 10% hike in sales activity.

It's expected that the performers' songs and albums will enjoy further gains in the week ending August 31 when a full week will have passed following the VMAs.
