Latest series of The X Factor pulls in bigger ratings than previous years

Last night saw the launch of the latest series of The X Factor (August 30).

Now in its eleventh year on air The X Factor proved itself to be gaining more viewers than those of the last two series.

Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B and Louis Walsh make up the judging panel on the current show and drew in an average 9.5 million viewers last night with a peak audience of 10.6 million.

Viewing figures for the premier episode of this season outranked those of the previous two years. 2013’s launch show accrued 9.2 million viewers whilst 2012 pulled in an audience of 8.7 million.

Last night’s show saw Cheryl faced with a contestant she had originally met in 2008 when she rejected singer Amy Connelly at the “judges’ houses” stage of the audition process.

Chloe Jasmine – who has previously been seen on the modelling television show The Face – proved to be popular with Simon Cowell following her rendition of ‘Black Coffee’. During the broadcast Cowell tweeted: “Love Chloe”.

An act the majority of the judging panel approved of was sister duo Blonde Electric who performed Jessie J’s ‘Do It Like A Dude’. Whilst voted through by Louis, Mel and Simon, Cheryl told the girls they were not her “cup of tea”.

The X Factor is back on television tonight (August 31) at 8pm on ITV.
