Primal Scream's Robert 'Throb' Young has died at age 49

It has been reported today that Primal Scream's Robert 'Throb' Young died recently in Hove near Brighton.

The guitarist wasn't a founding member of the band, but he played a huge role in shaping their sound and style and left the outfit back in 2006 to pursue other personal projects.

A tweet was shared this afternoon (September 11) by Primal Scream's official Twitter page, which confirmed the tragic news and it reads:

"We have lost our comrade and brother, Robert Young. A beautiful and deeply soulful man. He was an irreplaceable talent, much admired amongst his peers, as Johnny Marr said “Throb with a gold top Les Paul - unbeatable”. He was a true rock and roller. He walked the walk. He had “Heart & Soul” tattooed on his arm and I’m sure on his heart too. He once said to me “when we go onstage it’s a war between us and the audience”. He never let go of that attitude. Our love and thoughts are with his sons Brandon and Miles and their mother Jane, his wife Rachel, and his immediate family."

The band's Gary 'Mani' Mountfield, Oasis star Liam Gallagher and 'Trainspotting' author Irvine Welsh have all taken to social media sites to pay tribute to Young following the reports.

Gallagher tweeted: "RIP Robert Young AKA 'Throb'. Live Forever LG x." Novelist Irvine Welsh wrote: "The man was more rock n roll than rock n roll itself. Farewell my friend." BBC's Annie Nightingale also paid tribute, adding: "Throb of @ScreamOfficial so talented, so gifted, so sorry you are gone my friend. Shine Like Stars." The cause of death is yet to be released.
