Royal Blood say chart success should be wake-up call for Simon Cowell

Royal Blood believe their recent chart success should act as a lesson for the likes of Simon Cowell.

The Brighton rock duo hit No.1 in the UK with their self-titled debut recently and many saw it as a shift back towards guitar based music.

Speaking in this week's issue of NME, bassist and singer Mike Kerr said that he thinks their chart victory is a wake-up call for pop moguls like Simon Cowell.

He said: "Didn't Simon Cowell have someone in the charts that week? We beat him, and it’s time that people like him start scratching their heads as to how this happened and how to become popular…It's time to invest in the real deal."

Royal Blood meanwhile were also nominated recently for this year's Mercury Prize.

The result of the coveted award will be announced on October 29.
