Mel B admits there was 'bitterness' when Geri left the Spice Girls

Mel B has opened up on the animosity between the Spice Girls and Geri Halliwell when she left the band.

The flame-haired singer left the popular group in 1998 whilst the Brits were on top of the world because of "differences".

Speaking in a new interview with Larry King's Now show, X Factor judge Mel B said that Halliwell's departure left a sour taste within the Spice Girls.

She said: "When Geri left the group, it was bad. She left on my birthday, and didn't tell anybody, just didn't show up. We had the rest of the tour - the American part of the tour."

"I still remind her of [the bitterness]. I saw her a couple weeks ago and I said, 'Do you remember when you left on my birthday?'."

Speaking meanwhile about the group's popularity, Mel B added:

"We kind of relied on how different we were, how outrageous we were. We were the girls doing it for the girls. We were never relying on our sex appeal."
