The Fall singer Mark E Smith has poured cold water over the fervour surrounding Kate Bush's return to live music.

The reclusive singer is currently in the midst her 22-date Before The Dawn residency at London's Hammersmith Apollo.

It is her first live shows since her one and only tour in 1979 and all of the gigs sold out extremely quickly.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Smith said that he doesn't buy into the hype surrounding the singer's renaissance.

He said: "Who decided it was time to start liking her again? I never even liked her the first time round.

"It's like all these radio DJs have been raiding their mam's and dad's record collections and decided that Kate Bush is suddenly cool again. But I'm not having it."

The next gig on Bush's itinerary is a date at the Apollo on Friday (September 19).
