Jamelia: 'Modern music is too sexual and the videos have no mystique'

'Superstar' singer Jamelia has revealed that modern music is far too preoccupied with sex and she's disappointed in how new artists are going along with it and stripping off in their music videos.

She was discussing a recent comment made by Spice Girl Mel C, who explained that she won't let her young daughter watch sexualised music videos, and admitted that modern music is far too centred around sex and provocation:

"I think I went through the same process myself. Having two daughters myself... when you're an artist and you don't have responsibilities within your household, you don't think about it and when you see your own child being affected or influenced that's when it does become a concern."

"For me when I was younger, when I was doing the 'Superstar' video - was that a skirt? Excuse the pun but it has turned around and bitten me on the bum. Now my own children have watched it and are like, 'Mummy, what are you wearing?!'"

When asked if she thinks modern music stars are 'worse' in the sense that they wear less and are bad role models, Jamelia admitted that it's sad to think this new era of being incredibly scantily clad is now considered the height of the definition of sexy:

"I do believe that it's worse now. They are just about covering their bits but what I do think is, I don't want my daughter to watch the videos and believe that is what sexy means. I now know as an older, more mature woman that's not what true sexiness is. It's mystique. It's not showing it and flaunting it. I do think it's different. It's much more sexual nowadays. They are now wearing next to nothing."
