James Blunt: 'X Factor competitions aren't really about the music'

'Postcards' hitmaker James Blunt is looking for a musician or band to open for him at his forthcoming concert on December 1 at the Hammersmith Apollo in London.

Speaking to the Metro newspaper about his search, which is being done online with hopeful acts submitting footage of themselves performing live, the singer-songwriter explained that he's hoping to uncover an authentic artist who will be a great fit for his show:

"X Factor competitions are not really about the music. I'm looking for something a bit more genuine. I've always been part of choosing the support acts that come with me, and I enjoy that." When asked what kind of act he's looking for, the star added: "Anything goes! It doesn’t have to be anything like my music at all. It doesn’t have to be one man and a guitar, it can be anything. Bands, solo artists, whoever is great. I am up for anything and giving them a chance."

Blunt's small UK headlining tour is due to officially kick off on November 22 at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham and his search for an opening act closes tonight (October 7) at 6pm UK time. To enter, you have to send YouTube or Soundcloud footage to jamesbluntcompetition@gmail.com.
