Green Day and The Smiths nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction

Green Day and The Smiths are among the acts who are up for possible induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Today (October 9) the organisation confirmed the latest batch of artists who have been shortlisted for entry into the coveted Hall of Fame.

Green Day, The Smiths, Nine Inch Nails, NWA, Sting, Lou Reed, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Kraftwerk, Chic, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, the Marvelettes, the Spinners, Stevie Ray Vaughan, War and Bill Withers have all been selected.

Fans will get a chance to vote for their favourite acts alongside the usual selection of artists, historians and music industry stalwarts.

The public can vote until December 9, which is when the top five acts from the fans' vote will be added into the process.

The induction ceremony will take place in Ohio on April 18.

The likes of Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates and Cat Stevens were inducted into the Hall of Fame.
