Alvin Stardust dies aged 72

Alvin Stardust has passed away at the age of 72.

The singer's manager confirmed the news today (October 23), adding that the Englishman died after a short illness.

He had recently been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer and the musician passed away at home with his family.

Stardust - real name Bernard William Jewry - was due to release new album 'Alvin' on November 2.

The record is his first album since 1984's 'I Feel Like...'.

Stardust's debut record 'The Untouchable' hit No.4 in the UK when it was released in 1974.

The singer was born in London's East End in 1942 and he was married to choreographer Julie Paton when he died.
