One Direction, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran to perform at first BBC Music Awards

One Direction and Coldplay have been confirmed to perform at the inaugural BBC Music Awards.

A number of top acts will play the corporation's first ever music awards ceremony on December 11 at London's Earl's Court.

The show will be broadcast live on BBC One and it will be hosted by Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton.

One Direction and Coldplay will be joined on the bill by Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris, Paloma Faith and Clean Bandit.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin commented: "It's an incredible line-up and we're honoured to be part of it."

BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans added: "We shall gratefully be tipping our hats to those whose lights have shone brightest and whose music has helped water the inner flowers of our souls, hearts and minds over the last twelve months.

"Call it a review with prizes, or a show full of surprises. I cannot wait."

Tickets for the ceremony are on sale to the public now.
