Gerard Way reveals how My Chemical Romance fans are responding to his solo career

Rocker Gerard Way, of My Chemical Romance fame, has opened up about how fans of his old band are responding to his solo material and debut album, 'Hesitant Alien'.

Speaking to MTV News about his following's reaction to his new direction, the hitmaker explained that people seem genuinely excited about the new music he is making:

"I do have a sense, and it’s interesting. I don’t normally pay attention to those things, but you can get a really good gauge just by the energy you feel at your shows."

"And not just attendance alone. From the very first show, I got a strong sense of people just wanting to be a part of it and wanting to see me perform and kind of share what I was doing."

The star went onto add that he feels as though fans aren't coming to his shows to hear old material and instead they're present and happy to be moving forwards with him as he progresses:

"It didn’t matter even at the time that the record wasn’t out yet; it was all new songs in the set. They’re not coming to hear My Chemical Romance songs. I feel like a lot of them came along with me, and that’s a really nice thing. And I feel like I’ve reached out to an older crowd as well."

Way, meanwhile, is currently in the UK for a run of live dates and the tour schedule can be seen below:

  • November 5 - Manchester Ritz
  • November 6 - Oxford O2 Academy
  • November 7 - Glasgow ABC
  • November 9 - Cardiff University Students' Union
  • November 10 - London Koko
