Tom Daley: 'If I wasn't a diver, I'd be in One Direction'

20-year-old diver Tom Daley has revealed details of an alternative career plan if his sporting interests ever dwindle.

Speaking to MTV News recently, the heartthrob explained that if he wasn't so involved in the diving world he would love to be the sixth member of boyband One Direction: “I’d probably have to say One Direction. But I can’t sing or dance, so in another life I’d have to have a few more musical genes…”

The Olympian classes the 'Steal My Girl' superstars as friends, but earlier this year he confessed that they haven't found a lot of time to hang out together lately: "I guess you could say that (we're friends) but I haven't seen them for a long time. They're so busy and dates never work. Niall came down to watch Splash! though. After the Olympics I would say I was closest to Liam [Payne]."

Daley was promoting his forthcoming official 2015 calendar and when asked if he considers himself to be a sex symbol, added: “I don’t really think of myself as anything other than a diver. It’s all a bit surreal to be honest."
