Boy George: 'Perhaps if Adam Lambert were British, he would have a different impact'

Singer Boy George has credited his band's success in America with being British and revealed that it adds extra appeal to their music.

During a recent interview with The Desert Sun, he explained that being British seems to have helped Culture Club's success across the pond in the U.S. and wonders if Adam Lambert's stateside impact would be different if he was from the UK:

"I think part of it was the fact that I was from England. You know, like, 'He's not one of us. We didn't create it. We don't have to take responsibility for it.'"

He continued: "Perhaps, if Adam Lambert were British, he would have a different impact. The Scissor Sisters are American, but they seemed to do much better in England. I think, in a way, my British-ness is a part of my appeal."

Boy George's Culture Club, meanwhile, just cancelled their upcoming UK tour that was due to begin on December 1 at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow due to the singer becoming ill with a 'serious throat condition'. In a statement, he said: "I'm devastated but I want to be able to perform to the best of my ability and the specialist has told me that right now that will be impossible. I will focus on getting better and see all my fans soon."
