Charli XCX: 'I've learned what it means to be cool and it's not what I initially thought'

'Boom Clap' hitmaker Charli XCX has revealed that her perception of what's cool and what isn't has changed significantly with age.

During a new interview with Seventeen magazine, the beauty admitted that as a youngster she thought people who were rude and arrogant had a 'cool attitude', but as she gets older she recognises that they probably weren't having any fun and life's too short to always be putting on a front:

“When you’re growing up I think there’s this idea that the coolest people are the ones who are really rude and feverish. But I’ve come to realize that isn’t cool. I think the best people are the ones who are just as nice and fun. This is really cheesy, but you only have one life -- why spend most of it pretending to be cool?”

The rising star went onto add that she has lofty ambitions for the future of her pop career: “I’m going to build an empire. I'm always writing for someone else. I want to be someone who has her fingerprints all over the pop charts.”

The songstress recently confirmed details of a full UK headlining tour for 2015. Tickets are on sale now and the full schedule is as follows:

  • March 24 - Brighton, Concorde 2
  • March 25 - London, O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire
