Shawn Mendes: 'My debut album will surprise my fans'

Canadian singer Shawn Mendes has been hard at work on his debut album for some time now, but he has revealed that progress is being made and fans will be 'surprised' by the musical direction it takes.

Speaking to MTV News at KISS FM’s Jingle Ball in Los Angeles, the rising star confessed that he has been experimenting with genres on the record and he's 'really excited' about it:

"I’m working really really hard on the album and I’m so excited for it to actually come out. I’ve never been more proud of a body of work than this, so I’m very excited to see reactions.”

"It’s going to be very similar to my old style, but lots of things that I think will surprise my fans. There’s almost this rap-sing song, which I think is going be super awesome for my fans to hear. I really get in-depth. The music is coming from my heart and I think my fans are going to love that; I hope so at least."

Mendes, meanwhile, is due to go on tour in support of Taylor Swift next year and told Hollywire TV that he freaked out when he found out: "I freaked out a little... I freaked out a lot. I would love to collaborate with Taylor. I hear she's an amazing songwriter."
