Michael Stipe has rubbished rumours of an REM reunion.

The band called time on their illustrious career in 2011 and there has been speculation of the group reforming.

Singer Stipe, however, has told CBS This Morning that there is "no point" in the Americans getting back together. 

He said: "No, that will never happen. There's no point. I love those guys very much and I respect them hugely as musicians and as songwriters and everything but I just don't want to do that thing that people do.

"I despise nostalgia. I'm not good at looking back."

Stipe added that he reckons he might sing again in a different project at some point in the future.
