Meghan Trainor initially doubted pop star potential due to looks

Meghan Trainor has admitted that she was originally doubtful about her chances of making it big in music.

The US singer and songwriter enjoyed one of the biggest hits of 2014 in the shape of her track 'All About That Bass'.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, however, Trainor said that she previously felt that her looks and figure might scupper her chances of making it big.

She said: "Growing up with my insecurities, I was, like, 'I don't look like those pop stars do. I'm not that pretty, I don't know if I could do that'."

Reflecting meanwhile on the songwriting session that produced her hit song, Trainor added:

"It was the first session where I walked in and I was, like, 'I don't wanna write for someone today. I don't wanna pretend I'm Rihanna or Maroon 5. I just wanna write a hit song for the world'."
