Fall Out Boy: 'Taking time off gave us some much needed perspective'

'Alone Together' hitmakers Fall Out Boy have enjoyed great success since making their comeback with their 2013 album, 'Save Rock and Roll', and they have credited taking a hiatus with their new lease of life.

During a new interview with Billboard magazine, Pete Wentz explained that the band needed to take a break after their rise to fame and the time apart allowed them to focus on other creative projects, which worked wonders for them when they finally came back together:

"I think so… some creative stuff that probably doesn't fit in Fall Out Boy that everybody comes up with, and to get that out I think that helps -- spring cleaning a little bit. And when you do your own thing, you realise how much you need the other guys to do the other thing. Because everyone kind of fills a different role and you get an appreciation for each other when you do it on your own. We did the band for seven years straight without blinking."

The rocker went onto add that they got some much needed perspective while they were apart and now have more of a clear direction where their collective future in music is concerned:

"The time off also allowed us to get some perspective on that. Going from zero to TRL was a big deal. I think that we didn't really have the time to figure out who we were without Fall Out Boy. That time off gave us that perspective."
