Bob Dylan addresses critics in 30-minute speech

Bob Dylan has spoken about his critics in a half-hour long speech.

The veteran singer-songwriter was honoured at a gala event at the weekend as charity Musicares named him their person of the year.

Instead of giving a fleeting speech, Dylan instead ran through a 30-minute long monologue.

He addressed critics of his voice, which is often regarded as of poor quality.

Dylan said: "Critics say my voice is shot, that I have no voice. Why don't they say those things about Leonard Cohen? Why do I get special treatment?

"Critics say I can't carry a tune and I talk my way through a song. Really? I've never heard that said about Lou Reed. Why does he get to go scot-free?"

A host of musicians performed Dylan covers on the night, including Bruce Springsteen, Sir Tom Jones and Beck.
