Sam Smith's music teacher devastated by collaboration axe

A music teacher who coached British superstar Sam Smith from the age of nine has revealed that she was gutted when a possible duet between herself and the 'Stay With Me' hitmaker was shot down by his record label.

Joanna Eden has confessed to the Daily Telegraph newspaper that she and Smith planned to record and release a duet of the first song he wrote with her, but his bosses wanted him to collaborate with someone famous so their idea was axed:

"Sam came up with this perfect little pop song called 'Hold On Tight'. It's always been my favourite; I threw in a few chords and wrote a verse. For years I've been urging him to release it, and I was keen to do a duet with him. When he asked his label, they refused because they were waiting for Beyoncé... whoever she is, or another singer of that ilk to duet with him. I can understand it; that's the business."

The Wanted's Nathan Sykes, meanwhile, recently revealed that he and Smith have discusses potentially working together: "We've spoken about going into the studio before and I think it's quite likely going to happen over the next year. It'll be insane. I think it'll be such a great opportunity to create something really cool."
