Common doesn't think 'Selma' was snubbed at the Oscars: 'We're just grateful for the impact it's having'

The 2015 Oscars took place in Hollywood last night (February 22) and John Legend and hip hop artist Common won the Best Original Song prize for 'Glory', which was written for the motion picture 'Selma'.

The movie was also up for the Best Picture title, but lost out to 'Birdman' and Common has opened up about the loss to MTV News. He explained that despite not taking home the trophy, 'Selma' is definitely winning in the sense that it's impacting people's lives and bringing history back around:

"Of course I would have loved to see ["Selma" director] Ava [DuVernay] nominated and [lead actor] David [Oyelowo], so it’s a disappointment, but we’re really grateful to be nominated for Best Picture. There’s a lot of movies that came out this year and ‘Selma”s one of the films that’s nominated for Best Picture. I look at the positive in this and think about that and think about the impact that it’s having in the world and how it’s affecting people’s lives.”

Despite losing out at the Oscars for Best Picture, 'Glory' won both the Golden Globe and the Critic’s Choice Movie Award for Best Original Song.
