Kristin Scott Thomas says female ageism in movie industry is a 'disaster'

Kristin Scott Thomas believes women over the age of 50 are unfairly overlooked in the film industry.

The actress, who is aged 54, told BBC One's Andrew Marr Show that the alleged ageism is a "disaster".

She said: "I won't bore you with all the stories of older women not getting jobs in film because it's so boring. But it's true. It's a disaster."

When asked why it is boring, Scott Thomas said: "Because it's never going to change.

"Until the average lifespan is 150 years or something, I don't think women in their 50s are going to be considered at all viable. I think that's what it is. Sorry."

The actress meanwhile is due to star in upcoming World War II movie 'Suite Francaise', which will be released on March 13.
