Dev Patel on shunning technology: 'It's a conscious choice because I like keeping things simple'

Actor Dev Patel, who stars in the upcoming new sci-fi movie 'Chappie', has revealed that he isn't as tech-savvy as his on-screen character and still doesn't own an iPhone.

The 'Slumdog Millionaire' star told the Times of India that he consciously chooses to keep his life simple and unaffected by technology because he believes it disconnects people rather than brings them together:

"I am pretty bad when it comes to technology. I refuse to have an iPhone, I have an old touch screen phone. It's a conscious choice because I like keeping things simple. Everyone is constantly on phone these days. It's really a shame because you get disconnected from actually being face to face with humans. Even with my friends, I hate texting. I love talking. That's the kind of person I am. I am not on social media, instant chat messenger either."

Patel went onto add that he also shies away from the press and doesn't like to read stories about himself because it can be damaging to his confidence and self-belief: "I don't know. I stay away from reading stuff about myself. Confidence is a very fragile thing. I am just being me. It's a funny thing when people react differently, when you transform yourself from role to role. I guess I am maturing."
