Julie Andrews says she now counts Lady Gaga as a friend.

The US singer performed a medley of The Sound of Music tunes at the Oscars in February.

Andrews, who starred as Maria in the classic film, was in attendance and hugged Gaga after her slot.

Speaking on Good Morning America today (March 10), Andrews said that she has connected with the 'Applause' lady since the Oscars.

She said: "A new friend! Yes!

"I've always been a fan, but when she finished what she was doing, I think I found a new friend."
