Alex Winter has suggested that Bill & Ted 3 is close to filming.

The original movie - which starred Winter and Keanu Reeves - was released in 1989.

It spawned the sequel Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey and a third film has been mooted.

Speaking to Yahoo, Winter confirmed that filming is "really close", but he added a note of caution.

"We're really close. We're just about there.

"In Hollywood parlance, [that] means we'll either be shooting soon, or it's never going to happen."

Reeves is due to star as a narrator in the movie and Winter added:

"[Reeves] started watching the earliest cuts of this movie a year ago, and was just super into it.

"It's really funny, because I asked him and I could tell he was waiting for me to ask. Because he was like, 'Yeah. Duh'."

Winter was speaking at SXSW where he premiered his latest directed film Deep Web.
