Kendrick Lamar debuts at No. 1 on UK album chart

Despite the accidental early release of his latest album, ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’, Kendrick Lamar has sailed to the top of the UK album chart.

‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ was erroneously made available to purchase eight days ahead of its scheduled release date, but it is finishing the week as the UK’s best-selling album and broke a Spotify record by becoming the most-streamed album in a single day after receiving 9.6 million plays worldwide.

Kendrick Lamar’s previous album, his 2012 debut ‘Good Kid M.A.A.D. City’, peaked at No. 16.

Last week’s No. 1 album from Sam Smith, ‘In The Lonely Hour’, is now down one to No. 2.

There is another new entry this week at No. 3 from Mark Knopfler with ‘Tracker’ – his eighth album and his highest ever chart position.

Ed Sheeran’s ‘X’ is down one to No. 4.

Completing this week’s Top Five is a further new entry from Van Morrison with ‘Duets – Re-Working The Catalogue’ debuting at No. 5.

New entries to the rest of the Top 40 this week come from Marina & The Diamonds at No. 10 with ‘FROOT’, Bjork’s ‘Vulnicura’ is at No. 14 following it’s physical release, Sleeping With Sirens at No. 28 with ‘Strangers To Ourselves’, and REM’s 1992 LP ‘Automatic For The People’ has re-appeared in the chart at No. 40.
