Music videos to receive age ratings on YouTube

Some music videos will soon be given age ratings on YouTube and Vevo.

The move will initially come into force from on videos from Sony Music UK, Universal Music UK and Warner Music UK.

This means that some American artists - such as Rihanna and Miley Cyrus - will dodge the ratings.

The British Board of Film Certification is running the scheme and the likes of Dizzee Rascal's 'Couple of Stacks' is deemed suitable for over eighteens.

Vevo UK commented: "There is no signing in as such or filters – although this is a next step that may be added in time.

"At the moment this is about giving parents and users the information they need to make a more informed viewing choice and decision. To be effective it requires that parents also take an active interest in what their children are watching."
