Fifty Shades of Grey director pulls out of sequels

The director of Fifty Shades of Grey has confirmed that she won't return for its sequels.

Sam Taylor-Johnson helmed production of the 2015 movie adaptation of the EL James erotic novel.

However, she has confirmed in a statement that she is now no longer affiliated with the film series, which is expected to create two more movies.

The director said: "While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three.

"Directing Fifty Shades of Grey has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie."

Screenwriter Kelly Marcel has also pulled out of the project.

The second film Fifty Shades Darker is mooted for a 2016 release.
