Madonna, Taylor Swift and more back Jay Z streaming service Tidal

The likes of Taylor Swift have publicly backed Jay Z's new streaming service Tidal.

The rapper's company Project Panther bought Aspiro - a Swedish tech firm that runs two streaming music services (WiMP and Tidal) - for $56 million (£37.7m) in March.

He is launching Tidal later today (March 30) and it is billing itself as a "high fidelity" subscription-based streaming platform.

Swift - who pulled her music from Spotify, which allows free access, last year - will include her material on the service. Her rep said:

"This has never been changed. Big Machine Records believes music has value and we do not believe Taylor's music should be made available for free."

Other artists such as Madonna, Beyoncé and Jack White have also pledged their support.

A number of musicians have changed their Twitter icons to a blue colour to show their backing.
