Adam Lambert on new album: 'It was time to strip back the theatricality and the camp'

Adam Lambert says he wanted tone down the "theatricality" on his new album.

The singer is due to unleash his third record 'The Original High' later this year.

He worked with producers Max Martin and Shellback on the album and he told Billboard that its sound is more edgy than his previous material.

Lambert said: "It is a bit darker, but it's still upbeat.

"I was trying to strip away some of the pageantry from pop that I had already delved into. I like what I've done in the past, but it was time to strip back the theatricality and the camp. There's some reality in there."

He added that its lyrics talk about "some real stuff - stuff that's not always so easy to talk about, not so PC".

Lead single 'Ghost Town' meanwhile will be unveiled on April 21.
