Hilary Duff on album: 'I'm not a heavy girl, but the record started out quite dark'

Songstress Hilary Duff has opened up about her new album, 'Sparks', and confessed that it changed from being something that was 'super heavy' into a collection of songs that are more accessible and relatable.

The beauty split from her husband, Mike Comrie, last year and admitted that the break-up influenced her songwriting, but she had to actively veer away from the darkness that was coming out in the tracks because she is more of a 'sunshine' girl:

"My album is a range of stuff - I would say definitely in the beginning when I started writing, it was pretty heavy, coming out of my past year of - life. It's changed since then, which is good because I think that the overall theme too - me, personally, I'm not this super heavy girl. You know? I'm one for the sunshine, so it's shifted a lot and it feels a lot better to me."
