A musical based on the iconic film Groundhog Day will premiere in London next year.

The production will be staged at the Old Vic and it will be directed by the theatre's new boss Matthew Warchus.

The musical will take inspiration from the 1993 Bill Murray movie.

Composer and lyricist Tim Minchin, choreographer Peter Darling and designer Rob Howell will work with the film's co-writer Danny Rubin.

The Groundhog Day musical will open in London in June 2016 before moving to Broadway in New York.

The movie sees TV weatherman Phil Connors repeat the same day in a loop.
