Canadian heartthrob Shawn Mendes has opened up about dating and confessed that he has no special tricks or chat-up lines, but knows that girls tend to like food so at least he has that figured out. 

Speaking to Heatworld, the 16-year-old hitmaker admitted that would never use a line on a female he was trying to impress: "I don't know, I don't have one. I wouldn't go up and say a pick-up line... I might go up to a girl and say, 'are you hungry?' Buy girls food! That's what you should do - buy girls food."

"She could wear whatever she wants to wear... but I really like it when girls dress up, for sure. (It'd be the worst) if she... if we were going to dinner on a date and they got into the car with big baggy track pants on and their hair everywhere as if they just got out of the gym, I'd be like, 'ugh, I guess this doesn't really mean much'."

Mendes, who recently announced that he is currently single, was then asked if he has ever been on a terrible date and confessed that there's one incident in particular that immediately springs to mind: "I once went on a date and these old men were surrounding me, telling me what I was doing wrong. It wasn't like they were friends - they kept coming out of nowhere, these old men correcting everything I was doing!"
