Blur debut at No.1 with new album 'The Magic Whip' and outsell the Top 5 combined

Iconic British band Blur have debuted at No.1 on today's (April 29) midweek album with their eighth studio album, 'The Magic Whip'.

This is the group's first new album in 12 years and it has shot straight into the UK Top 40, outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined. If it holds on to this position, it will be Blur’s sixth chart-topping record, following 'Parklife' (1994), 'The Great Escape' (1995), 'Blur' (1997), '13' (1999) and 'Think Tank' (2003).

Last week’s No.1 'Stages' by Josh Groban is at No.2, and Paul Simon’s 'Ultimate Collection' is at 3. Completing the Top 5 are Ed Sheeran’s 'X' at No.4 and Sam Smith’s 'In The Lonely Hour' No.5. Maroon 5’s fifth studio album 'V' leaps from 17 to No.6 and Kodaline’s 'Coming Up For Air' re-enters the Top 10 at No.9.

Blur, meanwhile, have been confirmed to headline this year's Isle of Wight Festival, which will take place between June 11-14. The 'Parklife' hitmakers are set to take the stage on the Saturday night (June 13). Tickets for the festival are on sale now.
