Zayn Malik removes '1D' from his Twitter username

Singer Zayn Malik caught fans' attention this morning after removing the '1D' from his registered name on social media site, Twitter.

The superstar announced his departure from boyband One Direction back in March and is now on the site under his full name (pictured below). Following this change, the hashtag '#YouWillAlwaysBeZaynMalik1D' shot straight in at the top of the worldwide trending topics list on Twitter.

Malik's latest tweet, which was shared online around 8 hours ago, sees him getting a little philosophical and reads: "Is speech an extension to our thoughts or an image that we like to create x."

'Bend It Like Beckham' director Gurinder Chadha recently told press that she hopes the young sensation will take on a film role in the future: “We’ve met and spoken. He trained as an actor first then became part of the band. So I think what he’ll be doing is staying true to his heart – and that’s all you can ever do. I don’t have a part in mind for Zayn just yet but hopefully in the future.”
