OMI's 'Cheerleader' blocks Carly Rae Jepsen from No. 1 single

‘Cheerleader’ by OMI has risen up the UK singles chart to claim the top spot.

The reggae-pop tune by OMI and remixed by Felix Jaehn has spent two weeks at No. 2 behind Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’, but has now climbed to No. 1 and stopped mid-week leader Carly Rae Jepsen from taking the chart crown.

OMI secured the top spot with a sales total of 113,000 this week, and finished a slim 1000 units ahead of its nearest competitor, ‘See You Again’ which has slipped to No. 2.

Meanwhile ‘I Really Like You’ by Carly Rae Jepsen has debuted at No. 3.

Completing this week’s Top Five is ‘Lean On’ by Major Lazer featuring MO and DJ Snake, up two to No. 4, and Jess Glynne’s ‘Hold My Hand’, down two to No. 5.

Other than Carly Rae Jepsen, further new entries to the Top 40 come from Alesso alongside Roy English with ‘Cool’ in the Top Ten, AronChupa’s ‘I’m An Albatraoz’ at No. 25, ‘Someone New’ by Hozier at No. 36 and Skepta’s eighth Top 40 entry with ‘Shutdown’.
