Zayn Malik to be used in anti-IS campaign

Zayn Malik will be used as an example of "hope" in a new campaign persuading young Muslims not to join the Islamic State (IS).

Ex-Apprentice star Nurun Ahmed is launching Project Engage in the hope of making teenage girls who are thinking about joining the terrorist organisation IS abroad stay in Britain.

Former One Direction man Malik will be used as an example of what can be achieved in the UK without resorting to extremism.

Ahmed told The Sun: "We will give them examples of people they can relate to, like Zayn Malik from One Direction, to help them to understand that they have opportunities."

The singer meanwhile quit One Direction in March.

He left the boyband in order to live a more normal life.
