Brandon Flowers and Paul Weller go head-to-head for UK No.1 album

Today's midweek albums chart update sees Brandon Flowers and Paul Weller go head to head for this week's UK No.1 record.

Flowers' 'The Desired Effect' is currently in the coveted top spot, but is only 2,000 combined chart sales ahead of Weller, whose album 'Saturns Pattern' is his 12th solo effort. U.S. rockers Faith No More are set for their fourth UK Top 10 album this week with 'Sol Invictus', which is new at No.3.

Elsewhere on the chart, Hot Chip have made an appearance at No.6 with their sixth album 'Why Make Sense?', Mariah Carey's greatest hits album '#1 To Infinity' is at No.10, and U.S. pop-punk band The Story So Far could earn their first UK Top 40 with their self-titled album at No.36.

Flowers, meanwhile, has announced details of a signing that will take place at HMV in London on Friday, May 22 to celebrate the release of his new solo studio album, 'The Desired Effect'. 300 wristbands available for access to the event and they can be picked up the store on Oxford Street on a first-come first-served basis.
