Brandon Flowers scores a UK No.1 album with 'The Desired Effect'

Two artists have been battling it out for the UK No.1 spot on the albums chart this week and the coveted position has finally been claimed by Brandon Flowers with his solo album, 'The Desired Effect'.

Paul Weller's 'Saturns Return' finished close behind at No.2 and there are only 5,000 copies separating him from Flowers. Last week’s No.1, 'Wilder Mind' by Mumford & Sons is at No.3, Taylor Swift’s '1989' holds fast at 4, and Sam Smith’s 'In The Lonely Hour' completes the Top 5.

Iconic U.S. rockers Faith No More score their fourth UK Top 10 album this week with 'Sol Invictus', which is new in at 6, and Mariah Carey earns her first Top 10 album in seven years this week with her retrospective '#1 To Infinity' at No.8.

Brit rockers Whitesnake have made an appearance at Number 18 with their 12th record 'The Purple Album', and following their recent reunion tour, S Club 7 have re-entered the Top 40 at 35 with 'Best – The Greatest Hits'.
