Music events bring £3.1bn into UK economy

Music events held in the UK last year brought around £3.1bn into the country.

Industry organisation UK Music have revealed that 9.5m visitors from abroad attended events in the country in 2014.

They spent an average of £751 over the year.

Their report adds that nearly 40,000 full-time jobs in the UK are a result of the music industry.

Culture Secretary John Whittingdale commented: "Festivals like Glastonbury hold an iconic status on the world music scene and are one of the reasons why international tourism is booming in the UK, drawing in streams of visitors to all parts of the country.

"We know our UK creative industries contribute an astonishing £76.9bn to the UK economy but this report confirms they are truly world-class and a powerful advert for the UK."
